2024 Year-End Results: Celebrating Growth and Impact

As 2024 draws to a close, we are thrilled to share the incredible progress we’ve made together at Pets4Life Louisville. This year, our mission to support underserved pet families has achieved measurable results, thanks to your generosity and our dedicated team of partners and volunteers.

    Our Total Impact

    Total Pets Supported: 1,282

    Vet Care Provided: 356 pets

    • 279 pets treated through wellness and vaccine clinics
    • 77 pets treated via puppy outreach and workshops

Resources Distributed: 926 pets received essential food, supplies, and more

2024 Results – By the Numbers!

    2024 Highlights:

NEW! PETS4LIFE PETCARE RESOURCE CENTER: As a recipient of the Petsmart Charities Incubator grant, we were able to expand services to help people with pet food and basic pet needs. In order to build a presence in our target area, we opened a dedicated office at the California Community Center. The office will serve as a focal point for programming and will host Pet Resource Days and ‘Office Hours’ to assist pet families witih individual needs.

NEW! CUSTOMER SERVICE HUB: Launched a Customer Service Hub to provide support for all pet families in our target areas. This virtual customer assistance service will provide pet care guidance, referrals, transportation assistance and one-on-one support.

NEW! PETCARE HUBSPOTS: As a result of the relationships that we built, we have established three ‘Hubspots’ in the 40210 zip code area for providing services (California Community Center, Park Hill Area and The Lord’s Kitchen). In 2024, these hubspot locations hosted pop-up pet food and pet resource distribution events. In the future we plan to host vet clinics, vaccine clinics and S/N events in these areas.

NEW! PUPPY OUTREACH: AIn response to a Parvo Outbreak, we began holding small puppy outreach days throughout the west end neighborhoods where we provided dewormer and vaccines to help prevent Parvo and other diseases that run rampant in the area. This was a stop-gab initiative to help prevent illness and death until we are able to provide veterinary services in the area.

STRENGTHENED PARTNERSHIPS: Collaborated with organizations to amplify our reach and effectiveness. We want to thank the following organizations for partnering with Pets4Life Louisville and supporting our mission: The Table, Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Metro Animal Shelter, Louisville Parks & Recreation, Snip-N-Save, Spay Anyway, My Dog Eats First (MDEF), Central High School’s Vet Science Program, Caris College Vet Assistance Program, Louisville Metro Housing Authority, Pet Wants – J-Town, Club K9 Dog Park Bar, KHS/SNIP Clinic, and more.

  • Listening First: What We Learned in Phase I of Petsmart Incubator Grant

Listening First: What We Learned in Phase I of Petsmart Incubator Grant

At Pets4Life Louisville, we believe in starting with compassion, curiosity, and connection. As we began our work in the 40210 zip code—an area that has long been underserved and overlooked—we knew we needed to take our time and listen first.

This past year, with support from PetSmart Charities and the Institute for Human-Animal Connection (IHAC), we spent several months holding focus groups, conducting surveys, and simply showing up. We spoke with over 200 community members and asked them about their pets, their challenges, and their hopes. What we heard was honest, emotional, and deeply motivating.

    What We Heard

     Pets are family.
More than 80% of the people we surveyed are pet owners, and most described their pets as sources of comfort, love, and joy. But many also shared the pain and stress of not being able to provide the care their pets need.

     Barriers are real and complex.
High costs, lack of transportation, limited internet access, and few nearby vet clinics all make basic pet care feel out of reach. Many families said they simply don’t know where to go for help—or they know, but they can’t get there.

     People want to learn.
The top three pet topics community members want more information about? Behavioral training, pet nutrition, and pet insurance. Folks want to care for their pets—they just need tools, support, and a chance.

     Safety is a shared concern.
Aggressive or stray animals in the neighborhood were mentioned often. Pet families expressed a desire for help managing pet behavior and improving safety for everyone in the community.

    No Quick Fixes—But Real Hope

If we’ve learned anything, it’s this: there are no shortcuts to real, sustainable change. It takes time. It takes trust. It takes being present—not just once, but again and again.

We aren’t here to “fix” communities. We’re here to walk alongside them. We’re here to listen, to learn, and to co-create solutions that actually work for the people who live there. That means showing up with free pet food, pop-up clinics, friendly faces—and a lot of patience.

    We Need People Like You

As we move into the next phase of our work in 40210, we need help—not just from animal lovers, but from people who are ready to get out of their comfort zones and stand beside pet families in real, tangible ways.

    Here’s how you can help:

    • Join our team of changemakers. We need volunteers and partners who want to make a difference one-on-one, family by family, pet by pet.
    • Spread the word. We’re doing powerful work behind the scenes, but we need more eyes on it. Follow us on Facebook, invite your friends, and help us grow our community so we can reach more people and pets in need.

💙 We believe in a future where every pet is cared for and every family feels supported—but we can’t get there alone.

If you’re ready to be part of something real, something rooted in love and community, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Pets4Life Louisville!

    Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Pets4Life Louisville!

On May 15, 2015, we officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit – our IRS letter arrived, and our journey began. Like many grassroots organizations, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were starts and stops, and it wasn’t until late 2017 that our programming truly got off the ground.

But from day one, we worked with partners.

Our first-ever pilot event was held with Saving Sunny, where we provided vet care to around 50 pets. That day set the tone for what Pets4Life would become: collaborative, community-based, and focused on keeping pets and people together.

In 2018 and 2019, My Dog Eats First became a crucial partner. Their support and belief in our mission helped shape our early path—and honestly, without them, Pets4Life might not be here today.

When COVID-19 hit, we paused briefly—but we didn’t stop. We shifted to a new service model that allowed us to keep reaching pet families safely. And by 2022–2023, we were in a period of regrowth, expanding our outreach through Louisville Parks and Recreation Community Centers.

But we also knew something: our volunteer-based model had limits. To grow, we needed more.

In 2024, everything changed. We were selected as one of only 11 organizations nationwide to receive a PetSmart Charities Incubator Grant. This transformative support is helping us build a sustainable future, one where we can continue serving pets—and their people—for decades to come.

We may not have the biggest social media following. We might still be unknown to many.
But what keeps us going is knowing that we’re making a real difference, one pet family at a time.

Thank you to everyone—partners, donors, volunteers, and friends—who has walked alongside us on this journey. Your support helps people keep their Pets4Life. 💛

    Here’s to the next 10 years. 🐾
